Intro1992. Autofocus with Internal Focus Motor (pre Silent Wave) for Super Telphotos.


Description

Introduced in 1992, this was the first time the Nikon introduced a focus drive motor built into the lens as opposed to being in the camera. It was used only on their super telephoto lenses.

These lenses were superceded when the improved faster quieter Silent Wave Motor was introduced. All newer lenses with the silent wave motor are called AF-S.
